ABOUT THIS EMPLOYER

Start your career by taking a voyage of discovery into mind-blowing science at one of our world renowned scientific and engineering research establishments.

The STFC is a science-driven organization that makes it possible for a broad range of scientists and engineers to undertake the highest quality research, tackling some of the most fundamental scientific questions.

Our highly skilled scientists and engineers generate ideas and technologies that have broad social and economic impact. We encourage researchers to create new businesses based on their discoveries and we help established companies to use the fruits of our research as the basis of new or improved products and services.

We were formed as a new Research Council on 1 April 2007 through a merger of the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC) and the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC) and the transfer of responsibility for nuclear physics from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). We are one of seven national research councils in the UK.

We are keen to recruit graduates with good degrees in the following disciplines:

  1. Engineering: mechanical, electrical, control, software, mechatronics , electronics and microelectronics
  2. Science: particularly physics (with an interest in working on accelerators)
  3. Computing science, mathematics and other degrees relevant to working on software development and advanced IT solutions.

Location: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford, but there may also be opportunities to work at the Daresbury Laboratory near Manchester and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre, Edinburgh

If you have, or will have, obtained a Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject in the 18 months immediately prior to your application we would love to hear from you.
