Pros and cons
Kenneth Meikle, 24 graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering and is just completing a two year graduate scheme.
After being concentrated in a particular discipline of engineering, working in the shipbuilding industry has proved useful as a graduate engineer, as it has opened up my vision of scope to the other disciplines involved and in doing so I have developed an appreciation of other factors to consider, when contributing to the design of a product.
Many newcomers get caught up in the
experience that more senior engineers have, but graduates should look to lend to this experience with an up- to-date academic understanding of the various fields.
