Entry qualifications: Usually a 2:1 degree in a subject related to the particular professional body, or a related qualification. Membership is often required for progression.

Professional bodies represent their sector and fulfill a variety of roles. Working with the government and employers on best practice, as well as acting as a public representative and spokesperson for their industry, professional bodies function as support networks for the workers.
An increasing number of professional organisations offer student membership at vastly reduced subscription costs, although some organisations impose certain conditions that members must fulfill. Joining a professional body can be very beneficial for students and graduates, providing access to a valuable network of people. Some jobs require you to be part of a professional body as it will act as a mark of quality for your own practice.
Major organisations include: ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers), CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply), ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) although there are many more.
