Danny Hardy - Sales Manager - Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward
Name: Danny Hardy
Age: 32
Degree/University: Tourism Management, Leeds Metropolitan University
Occupation: Sales Manager at Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward, Battersea branch
What do you do in your job?
I'm Sales Manager of the Battersea branch, and I oversee a team of 6 sales negotiators. I also carry out valuations. In five years time I hope to be an area manager.
What was your motivation in applying?
I heard about it through a friend of a friend - he already worked at KFH and was very happy there, so I decided to apply. After university I had spent a year travelling the world and a year living in Australia. While in Australia I did various office-based jobs, and I realised that although I liked working in an office, I didn't want to be stuck there all day - I like being out and about. I also wanted to be in control of my own destiny, and working for KFH makes that possible because of the commission-based system.
What do you enjoy about your job?
If you're interested in a career in sales, this is the most exciting field you can be in. It's very rewarding: you're dealing with the most important part of people's lives, their homes, which means that you're actually selling something that really matters to people. You're also dealing with large sums of money, which makes the job interesting. I also like the variety - no two days are the same.Working for commission also makes the job more interesting. KFH has an excellent incentives scheme: you're set quarterly targets, and the highest performers for that time period are rewarded. For example, some of my colleagues just got back from a trip to St Petersburg; we've also been skiing in Verbier. KFH is a young, lively company with a vibrant social life, which is great.
Advice to readers considering a career in your field:
Be prepared for hard work! The clichés about estate agents are wrong - of course we're competitive, because it's a reputation-based industry, but it's not extreme.
