Graduate News - Back Up or Pack Up
The more technology evolves the more we seem to take it for granted, as was recently discovered in a survey that showed nearly half of students never back up their work.
Most A Level and degree students say that they never bother to make copies of their data and rely on the existing hard drive that's already in the computer. In the same survey it was revealed that 70% of students had lost work due to hardware malfunction, a worrying statistic if it means you might fail a module you've worked hard on.
Warren Lewis the Director of Sales for electronics company LG said, 'With home PCs vulnerable to malfunction, viruses, accidental damage and loss or theft, it is crucial that more adults and young people in education consider regularly using an external storage device.'. Although LG are obviously eager for us to use more hardware solutions to this problem, online back up sites like Mozy or iDrive are becoming cheaper and cheaper and some sites are even free. With much more at stake to lose as well as coursework, can we really afford to lose our university degrees and our itunes collections by not backing up?
