Graduate Case Studies - Christopher Walton - Graduate Programme Commercial Banking, Barclays Bank plc (Durham MSc Economics and Finance)
I chose Durham because of the reputation of the school and the university and my own experiences of life at Durham (I graduated from Durham with a first class degree in Economics). It was also recommended by my professors and existing business school students. The opportunity to apply for a DBS scholarship was an added attraction.
My MSc enhanced my employability and further developed my skills, providing me with a platform to move into a number of different possible careers. The course allowed further exploration of the subject in greater depth and provided an opportunity to consider the possibility of undertaking a PhD.
My Durham experience was extremely positive both academically and socially. I am a great advocate of the collegiate system and believe it offers postgraduates a great opportunity to get involved in activities outside of their course. The excellent teaching and facilities provided by the business school creates an ideal environment to further your understanding of the discipline.
I turn received offers from DrKW in Corporate Finance (I undertook a 10-week internship with them as part of my undergraduate degree) and RBS in Corporate Banking in London before opting to join Barclays Bank PLC on the Graduate Programme in Commercial Banking.
