Graduate Case Studies - Matt Klimkiewicz - Financial Analyst, Sony (Durham MA Financial Management)
Arriving in Durham, there was only one thought on my mind: having a job offer before the year was up. Now, looking back, it was the 'Durham' name and its reputation with recruiters that made the difference. Out of 1480 applications, a 2007 Durham graduate and I were among the 12 who received an employment offer from Sony. I am now a Financial Analyst in their department of Corporate Planning & Control in London.
I am a Polish-German student who, while completing a BA in International Business at a French business school, started to look for a Masters programme in the UK. Having experience of German and French business schools I felt that it was time to complete my education in the UK. I followed the advice of a friend and chose Durham over other business schools because of its excellent academic reputation and uniqueness of student life. One of the most important reasons why I chose Durham was the 'small town' atmosphere and its positive impact on student life. The unique learning environment is enhanced by Durhamīs history of learning as well as amazing sights like Durham Cathedral and Castle, which, in my opinion, are equal to other famous attractions throughout Europe.
Only here is it possible to receive an excellent education, experiencing the uniqueness of a small UK town with its history and cultural diversity with over 40+ nationalities at the School.
Having reached my goal of employment before the end of my studies, which, by the way is not just a job but my dream job, I can strongly recommend the Durham experience.
