Graduate News - Pizza Frenzy
Fresher's week is now officially over for another year and according to new statistics, the new students have managed to eat their way through five million pizzas, 840,000 kebabs and drunk at least one million pints.
According to UCAS an increase of 44 thousand applicants received a place at university and this is the reason for the increase in takeaway numbers. The UK's leading takeaway site Just-eat noticed a large increase of orders from student halls and decided to take a closer look. On average, a new student had 12 slices of pizza over the course of the week, totalling over five million slices of pizza.
In the male fresher population a total of just over one million pints were drunk last week and female freshers drunk a total of just over seven million measures of spirits. Students have also claimed that they took on average 10 paracetamol tablets last week. Fancy dress was popular when going out during the first week, with three in every four respondents saying that they dressed up during Freshers. Ash Ali, Marketing Director for Just-eat.co.uk said: 'We saw a huge increase in orders on Just- eat around the time freshers started at their respective campuses, and we thought we'd have a bit of fun by breaking the week down into numbers
