Case Study - Enterprise Rent-A-Car - Palwinderjit

Name: Palwinderjit

Job title: Assistant Manager

Business area: Rental

Year joined: 2006

When I started university I thought that when I graduated I’d get involved in management or corporate strategy consultancy. I was persuaded to join Enterprise because of the autonomy they give you from the very start. Essentially they give you the opportunity to run your own business without having to put in the capital – which sounded good to me!

On joining I was immediately given a large amount of responsibility and allowed to take control, not only of assets but people too. I was recognised as an individual and my input was valued from day one. As well as listening to my ideas, people were also willing to hear any worries or concerns I might have had.

Another thing I enjoyed was meeting the senior members of the team. It’s not one of those faceless companies where you don’t really know who you’re working for. You get to see the bigger picture. Also, you don’t have to be at the company for years before you get a promotion. I was promoted to assistant manager within a year.

The company has a very American feel to it, but with the leniency of the British culture. My colleagues and I are a diverse group and we all enjoy socialising and learning about each other’s backgrounds and traditions. Customer interaction is also valued very highly compared with other companies and I’ve gotten to know some of our regulars really well too. All in all Enterprise offer me a happy working environment and the opportunities I want for career progression.
