Graduate News - PwC run summer academy
PwC is to run a 'summer academy' for university students to increase their employability. The five-day residential programme will put 50 students through their business paces, in team exercises and formal assessments developed by PwC professionals.
Students take control of a fictitious international transport business, and will have to 'face up to harsh business realities' as trade unions and rising oil prices disrupt the performance of their company.
At the end of the week, group presentations will be made to a 'dragons den' style panel, including PwC partners. Successful students are offered a place the following year on the in-demand PwC internship programme.
Sonja Stockton, head of PwC recruitment, says the first summer of university is not too early for students to be thinking about developing business skills. 'The recession has highlighted the need for students to get to grips with business life and skills throughout their degree, not just towards the end of it. Building these skills as early as possible will pay dividends to employers and graduates alike in the long run.'
