News article - stress

Speculation about the credit crunch and economic downturn is enough to send anyone’s stress soaring, but news from the Association of Graduate Recruiters shows the amount of graduate vacancies is actually remaining healthy.  Apparently, vacancies for graduate level positions have grown by 11.7 per cent since 2007, with three-fifths of employers expected to report an increase in vacancies in 2008. However, what has slowed down is the increase in starting salaries, with the average starting salary now steady at £24,500.

Carl Gilleard, Chief Executive of the AGR, says: 'The results of our 2008 survey present a mixed picture: they are surpsingly positive in relation to the number of vacancies available with a respectable increase across the sectors. However, although employers are still hiring, this year’s survey shows the smallest rise in graduate salaries in recent years.'
