Sarah Banning - Assistant Environmental Consultant - Capita Symonds

Sarah-Banning

Name: Sarah Banning

Age: 24

Degree/University:  Environmental Management at Manchester and Melbourne Universities

Year of Graduation: 2005

Occupation: Assistant Environmental Consultant, Capita Symonds

What do you do in your job?

I’m involved in a range of things at the moment. As I have only been here a few weeks, I’m still getting to grips with things. So far I have been responsible for reviewing projects and have been involved in programme planning and development. In the future, I will have a greater role in project management and consultation.

What was your motivation in applying?

I was looking for a large organisation that had a solid reputation for a range of services and high quality. I wanted to work at a company that would really let me get involved, and help me to improve my skills, and that offered a good range of jobs.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I would say the range of projects. I deal with high profile work as well as more local scale projects. Also, the range of people I work with - there are a lot of different people with different personalities. It’s pretty good fun!

Any advice to readers considering a career in your field?

If you don’t manage to get into this field when you first try, keep trying. This industry is constantly growing and has loads of potential. Keep applying, get work experience, and try to remember what you enjoyed and where you did it.
