Once seen as the second homes of students all over the UK, student union bars are now in a state of decline. Apparently, bar sales have fallen a whopping 46 per cent in the past decade. However, this doesn’t mean students are turning teetotal, as much as student unions are re-evaluating what their own purpose is. According to Matt Hyde, chief executive of the NUS, they are now focusing on representation and advocacy (of students) at the expense of entertainment.
