Government Legal Service (GLS)

The GLS joins together some 1950 lawyers in around 30 Government organisations, including major Departments of State and the regulatory bodies. A GLS lawyer's work is quite unique and reflects the huge range of Government activities - from aerospace through to zoology.

As a career prospect the GLS is hard to beat. GLS lawyers have just one client - the Government of the day - and that client requires advice and support on a host of domestic and international matters. As a GLS lawyer, you could deal with ground-breaking cases in the courts, advise Ministers, work on a public inquiry or become involved in the passage of legislation through Parliament.

Working for the GLS tends to appeal to lawyers interested in the interaction of law and politics and their effect upon the community as a whole. The GLS offers good working conditions, excellent career opportunities and the chance to shape law that affects people's lives. The work is intellectually stimulating, broad-ranging and frequently high-profile.
