Graduate Consultancy Jobs

Consultancy Sector
Sponsored by PwC

Consultancy

Start salary: £28,000-35,000
Professional salary: £53,000-80,000
Required qualifications: Usually a 2:1 degree, preferably in business, economics, engineering, science or mathematics. A masters in business or a related subject would mean higher-level entry.
Jobs available: Today's UK consulting industry employs around 40,000 consultants and is worth just over £8 billion.*

The MCA (Management Consultancies Association) defines management consulting as: "The creation of value for organisations, through improved performance, achieved by providing objective advice and implementing business solutions."
So in non-management speak that means they cover a wide range of activities, but essentially, they help companies improve their performance. Depending on which company you work for, there is wide variation on what consultants do: in some companies they may be making strategic decisions, while others will focus more on operational decisions. Ultimately, all of them make informed business decisions through analysis.
